This new model is a direct result of never ending perfection from
Porter-Cable. We took the famous 690 router first introduced in
the late 1960s and did the impossible, improved it. Not only has
the power been increased to 1-3/4 horsepower, but we added a dust
sealed rocker switch, larger more ergonomic handles and a one hand
operated lever release for locking the motor depth in place. This
new lever is extremely useful for router table users and incorporates
a motor "catch" that will not allow the motor to drop
out of the base when loosened. The 1/2- and 1/4-inch self-releasing
collets are a dream come true when bit changes are necessary and
the 10-amp, all aluminum motor housing and base ensure cool running
even with large diameter bits. The biggest feature yet to be mentioned
is the new electronic variable speed switch that allows you to fine
tune the revolutions per minute from 10,000 rpm to 27,000 rpm. Now
you can adjust the speed to match the size of the bit and the hardness
of the wood to eliminate burning and chattering. Of course precise
bit depth is easily achieved with the 1/64-inch micrometer ring
that utilizes machined pins in the motor housing to ensure smooth,
